Bolt Ϟ

 Trailer

Talk about the cutest start to a movie ever. Right away I was like "oh em gee cutest dog ever". I mean really, who could resist the cuteness of a puppy playing with a squeaky carrot and chasing its tail? The beginning of Bolt was slightly confusing because of how they completely mislead you. I had no idea what the movie was about though so I'm sure if you watch the trailer you'll know what's going on whereas I was suprised.

Being a Disney film, I had pretty high expectations for Bolt and I can say that I wasn't let down. It had the typical qualities of being extremely cute and funny. The hamster named Rhino is also hilarious. Pretty much the only thingsI didn't like about the movie was it's predictableness and at some parts it was sad. It was so sad when Bolt (spoiler alert) finds out that everything he thought was real actually is all just part of a television show. He pretty much has to start his life all over again because he had been deceived so much. A cat has to teach Bolt how to act like an actual dog that's how bad it is. Anyway, overall it's definitely worth watching.

Gintama

This seems like what would be produced by someone on crack and acid at the same time. Okay maybe not that crazy, but I'd say pretty close to it. At the same time, this manga is so loveable. The three main characteres, Gintoki, Shinpachi, and Kagura, are just so funny. And it's nice because it can be so weird yet still usually have some sort of storyline to it. Although there are some chapters that are just completely out of the rest of the story, thely're still really funny.

The next section is from Wikipedia because the story of Gintama is much to scattered and crazy for me to even want to attempt to explain it. So without further ado...

"The story of Gin Tama takes place in Edo (known today as Tokyo because of its name change in 1868), Japan, which was conquered by aliens called Amanto in the late Edo period. The samurai of Japan fought the aliens, but after their defeat the Amanto placed a ban on carrying swords in public. The plot is focused on an eccentric samurai, Gintoki Sakata who helps a teenager named Shinpachi Shimura save his sister Tae from a group of aliens who want to make her part of a brothel. Impressed with Gintoki, Shinpachi becomes his apprentice and works with him as a freelancer in order to pay the monthly rent where Gintoki lives, as well as to know more about him. The two of them rescue a teenage alien girl named Kagura from a group of Yakuza who wanted to use her superhuman strength to kill people. Kagura joins Shinpachi and Gintoki to work as freelancers and the three become known as "Yorozuya"."
Yep so there you go, that's the summary. Well, not really, but it's just how it starts out. I admit I haven't read all the volumes yet, but I have read most of them, and the ones I have read I've read them several times. So yes I do like this manga quite a lot just haven't gotten around to finishing it yet.
I give it: 9/10

Iron Man 2

Trailer

I have no remembrance of the first Iron Man at all, so don't expect any comparisons between them. The thing I liked most about the sequel is the dynamic between the guy who is Iron Man and his wife. Their conversations cracked me up several times during the movie and were pretty much the reason I kept watching. The beginning was rough to get through because Tony Stark (Iron Man) was completely egotistical.

The action scenes were pretty cool too, and the random girl who killed pretty much everybody was cool. But the ending was generally predictable and that whole shindig. So, without the witty banter between characters Iron Man 2 would have been pretty much a wreck, at least to me. But overall I liked it.

I give it: 7/10

Inception

 Trailer

I don't think I need to go into details about this movie because I'm pretty sure unless you've been living under a rock so big that you wouldn't hear the Big Bang from under it, you know what it is..

The idea of the movie is interesting, it's just that, after hearing so much hype about it being the best movie ever, my expectations were set way too high for it. And that always results in ending up believing that the movie is not as good as people said it was. Maybe I just don't like mainstream things, not because they're mainstream exactly, but because anything that gets talked about so much gets a built up idea of how great it should be.

Oh and that ending? Hate. Stupid cliffhangers.

I give it: 7/10

Claymore

I am completely sure that I've written a review about this anime before but I think I had it saved on my old computer. Therefore it has been lost to the depths of computer hell. Anyways, that means I have to write a new one, but I kinda don't want to. So I'm going to be pretty brief here.

Plot: giant monsters try to kill people. Insert girls that have to fight said monsters with huge swords that are actually called claymores and have them fight. End. That's basically the whole thing. Oh and add lots of gore. There that's your anime. The good thing is that it's a short one at I think 24 episodes so it doesn't have enough time to get extremely repetitive; just a little bit.

I give it: 6/10

Baby Mama

 Trailer

That's right, another Tina Fey movie. But sadly this one isn't very good even with her in it. Amy Poehler was very good in this movie though, but she always is good at acting insane. I'm not sure why it wasn't too good, but I still did get through it just to see what happened. The plot was detailed and there were some scenes that were shocking and not expected which is nice because that doesn't happen very often. Even so, I didn't like it as much as other things with Tina Fey in them. Maybe it's just because I'm basing this movie on Tina Fey's other movies which are all awesome; I guess not judging on typical Tina Fey standards this movie might be better. It is the typical Tina Fey character of social awkwardness, or actuall just awkwardness in general, but maybe it just doesn't fit well with the story. I'm not sure.

I give it: 7/10

Sleepless in Seatle

Trailer

Okay, so I do know that movies aren't supposed to be realistic, but the whole "love at first sight" stuff really annoys me. Oh and this definitely is not the type of movie I normally watch either, and I will admit that I was more "watching" it as in I had it on but I wasn't really paying complete attention to it mostly because I couldn't devote my full attention to it.

There were some pretty good parts to Sleepless that did make me laugh, but I mostly liked the little kid, Jonah, because he was so cute. As for complete plot predictability, yes it's completely obvious how it'll end (just like in Leap Year actually). But the difference is that this movie makes it actually somewhat worth watching the movie between the beginning and the end. I do like Tom Hanks too.

The fact that I'm giving a movie like this over a rating of 5 means it's good because I normally can't even make it through this type of movie.

I give it: 6/10

Leap Year

Trailer

Okay I don't have much to say for this movie except that I didn't really like it. At all. It's a movie where you know the ending right from the start and nothing in between makes it worth getting to that way too predictable ending. Even though it was supposed to be a romantic comedy, the romance was bad and the comedy was also bad. I don't think the movie made me laugh even once.

I give it: 4/10

Kick-Ass

Trailer

I read the comic book before the movie just to get a feel of it even though I did want to see Kick-Ass in theatres, that didn't happen so I never got around to watching it until now. Let me say that this movie started out really weird and immediately made me not want to watch it. Oh and the comic book didn't start like the movie at all.

At the point in the movie where Hit-Girl (the girl with the purple hair) shows up, pretty much the entire movie changes. The scene she's first in she kills multiple people with multiple weapons and she's only 11 years old. She slices off a guy's foot, and stabs another few people. Also, Nick Cage looks ridiculous with his mustache. Just saying. And he doesn't fit the roll of an anti-crime-dude anyways; he should stick to National Treasure or movies like them.

I think the movie should have just been named Hit-Girl because she's way more awesome than Kick-Ass; she's an 11 year old girl who kills at least 20 people in the movie while Kick-Ass is a teenaged boy who kills maybe 5 people. I do like the plot though because it's not the typical "I'm an awesome super-powered person fighting crime" but 'normal' people trying to be superheroes.

Blood: The Last Vampire

Trailer

First let me clarify that I'm speaking about the live action movie that came out somewhat recently and not about the anime or anything like that. Oh and the trailer totally makes this movie seem way more awesome than it actually is. Honestly, I don't really have much to say about this movie because it's not really review-worthy. I got pretty much no entertainment value at all from it and had to try to watch it several times before finally being able to finish it. A typical revenge storyline accompanied by saving a "damsel" character is pretty much the movie. Although the fight scenes were pretty awesome and bloody, pun intended, they had no chance of being able to compensate for lack of anything else cool.

I give it: 3/10

PotC: On Stranger Tides

Trailer

Aye, strange tides were sailed. No Orlando Bloom or Keira Knightley aka two thirds of the original main cast that made up a very large part of the fan base. Okay so first I must say that yes I can review this movie before it came out in theatres because I went to an advance showing. Anyways, overall I was pretty disappointed in the movie.

It had those overall bits of the original Pirates movies that everyone loves; classic Jack Sparrow correcting people to call him Captain and his overall demeanor as a whole was still intact. But the situations around him and most of the characters were just wrong. Penelope Cruz's accent admittedly got annoying as the film went on. Disney, you know, those people who made the Little Mermaid, also managed to destroy any respect I ever had for mermaids by making them extremely evil and almost vampiric. Actually not "almost"... "very" is a much better word. They hissed. Hissing mermaids. Hissing killer mermaids as a matter of fact.

As a huge fan of the first movie; I literally watched it three times straight after I saw it the first time; it's definitely something for me to be saying it wasn't very good. There were some lines that I'm sure will be quoted, but not nearly as many as were in the first three movies. This fourth installment has a predictable plot too. Unlike the previous movies, the plot is pretty simple and nothing extremely dramatic happens. Or maybe it's just that plots have gotten so generic that it's easy to tell where movies are going with the story. Either way, me timbers were not shiverin' at this here movie.

Evangelion 1.11: You Are (Not) Alone

Evangelion is based off of an anime/manga of the same name; well it's technically called Neon Genesis Evangelion, but there are so many spin-offs of it that it's ridiculous. It's one of those classics that pretty much everyone has heard of but maybe not seen. I normally hate mecha (especially reading it) because it's so hard to tell which giant machine is which. In the drawing medium they all seem to look the same and get me confused. But this movie is pretty much one version of the manga adapted into movie style. So I had high expectations for it because I loved the manga.

The entire time I sat through the movie, I waited for something to happen. I just kept on waiting for it to suddenly become awesome as the manga had. And honestly it never really did. The only plot I could somewhat make out was "oh no there's an Angel let's fight it". Oh and the subplot parts that make it like a soap opera. It was the ending of the movie that got me. Well not the literal ending, but the part after the huge overly-dramatic fight scene where Shinji goes and gets Rei out of the Eva. And it only "got me" in the way that it's so sad but yet happy at the same time. Anyways I'd probably only recommend this to crazy Evangelion fans so that's probably not you.

I give it: 5/10

Paper Heart

Okay so this is definitely a weird movie for me to pick to watch, but I did. Pretty much just for Michael Cera who I loved in Scott Pilgrim vs the World. His cute charm was also in this movie, but the movie in general was lacking. The premise is this: the main character, Charlyne, doesn't believe in love, so she sets out making a documentary about what love is. On the journey she meets someone and a relationship between them beings to form.

Overall, Paper Heart was kinda boring to be blunt about it. There were a few parts that made me smile, mostly the parts where they had the little sections where cardboard people were used. Plus the part where Charlyne interviews a bunch of kids in a park about what they think love is.Those kids were just so darn cute. The ending was also pretty funny, but honestly not worth watching the whole rest of the movie to get to.

Scott Pilgrim vs the World

Trailer

Don't let the awesomeness of this movie not impact your life. I don't really know if that line made sense but in layman's terms (because everyone is a layman), this movie is awesome. I think the first sign that I really wanted to see it in the first place is that I actually went to the movie theater to see it. That's right; I went to a movie. And I wasn't disappointed, in fact, I wanted to go right back in and watch it again once it ended.

I'm thinking that the main reason why I love this movie so much is because of how they made it seem like a true comic book (Scott Pilgrim is originally a comic book series which is also worth reading). I knew I was going to like the movie before it even started due to the really awesome decision by some genius to make the sound of Universal into an 8-bit track for the opening. During action scenes, there is a visible "POW" upon the impact of typically a fist on a face, and during once scene, which is among one of my many favorites, one character's face turns into a literal "o.o" face. That made me laugh so hard I almost cried. The plot isn't really that great, it does get kind of dull as Scott continually has to fight the seven exes, but each of them bring their own side plots which adds to the depth. The protagonist is as much of a jerk as he needs to be which makes it extremely easy to hate him.

I don't want to say too much about the movie, but if you're a nerd/geek about comic books and/or video games, like I admittedly am, this movie is definitely for you. Even if you're not one of those people, watch this movie. Now.

I give it: 10/10
